Mission - the Word proclaimed -
Each Sister's contribution is an expression of the community's ministry to the world. Constitution #28
The charism for preaching is at the heart of the mission of the Order of Preachers. All members are called to participate in the mission of the Order according to their diverse abilities, gifts, training, and call. This call arises from the very purpose for which the Order was founded." ("The charism of Preaching for Men and Women of the Order of Preachers" presented at the General Chapter of the Order, 2001)
Our mission as Dominicans is to proclaim the Gospel Word through preaching and teaching. This mission is central to our community, and ministries are continually adapted to the current needs of the Church. |
We discern as community and as individuals within the community how to be faithful both to the congregational charism and goals, and to our own unique giftedness. We are encouraged to seek new modes and places for preaching and teaching which remain true to the original inspiration of Dominic. We are urged to continue the preaching as it is exemplified in the life and work of Catherine of Siena, and of all the women of our Houston congregation who have preceded us. We are strong in our commitment to minister with and on behalf of the poor, and to advocate for justice.
Our sisters minister in education, parish ministry, religious education, social services, campus ministry, counseling, hospital and port chaplaincy, medical, legal, family and women's services, ministry with the aging, music and art, our Guatemala mission, retreat work, community organizing and refugee assistance. |

Dominican High School Preaching Conference
Our mission of preaching and teaching the Word of God is shared by the people with whom we work. One expression of the shared mission is providing the opportunity to students of our two high school to attend the Dominican High School Preaching Conference which was initiated in the summer of l999. Ninety students from Dominican High Schools in the U.S. participated in the Conference held June 22-27, 2002 at Dominican University in River Forest, IL.
Below are photos of the 2002 participants from St. Agnes Academy and St. Pius X High School. |
