125TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION CONTINUES WITH EVENSONG AT THE NEW CO-CATHEDRAL OF THE SACRED HEART

Evensong is a tradition of the Church that combines the services of Vespers and Compline, the evening prayers of the Church.  The service is typically composed of a service of light, a call to prayer with an evening hymn and thanksgiving proclamation.

Please join us, friends, family and Partners in Mission, at the new Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart on Friday, June 6, 2008, for Evensong for Peace, Justice and Care of Creation from 7-8 pm.  Email Mamie Marx to RSVP or call 713-440-3710.

STUDY SERIES CONTINUES WITH
MARY CATHERINE HILKERT, OP IN MAY

Join us for the final speaker in our 125th Anniversary Year Study Series as Mary Catherine Hilkert, OP, speaks on "The School Friendship:  Human Desires and God's Holy 'Trick'" on Saturday, May 3.

Catherine of Siena was convinced that our desire for God is rooted in God's desire for union with us.  This presentation will focus on how our longing for God is mediated through our human desires-especially the desire for love and friendship-and how the process of conversion can be viewed as a transformation of desire.

Hilkert is a member of the Dominican Sisters of Akron, Ohio and is Professor of Theology at the University of Notre Dame.  She is the author of Naming Grace: Preaching and the Sacramental Imagination and Speaking with Authority: Catherine of Siena and the Voices of Women Today.  She has published numerous articles on contemporary theology, spirituality and preaching.  She is a past president of the Catholic Theological Society of America and is presently a member of the Dominican Order's International Commission on Preaching.

Click here to make reservations online or call 713-440-3711 to RSVP.  The talk with be held in the Dominican Sisters Meeting Room at 6501 Almeda Road in Houston, Saturday, May 3, from 9-11am.
