DOMINICAN FAMILY

Lay Dominicans play an important role in the Dominican Family.  They are women and men - married, single, divorced and widowed who seek to live the Gospel message in their daily lives through their relationships in their homes and workplaces.

Where Do You Belong?

Do you find it
increasingly challenging

in today's world to be

grounded in a spirituality

that nurtures your spirit?

Dominican Family

The Dominican Family finished a wonderful year of Formation in the Dominican Spirit on May 4, with an evening of reflection and discernment. It was led by Maureen Bacchi who helped the group process whether they felt called to continue in the process. (See the slide show of the evening.) The evaluations of the past year were very positive mentioning the value of prayer, small group discussion and input.

The Dominican Family will begin a new group with a gathering in Houston on November 9th and Beaumont on November 4th.  If you are any way interested in joining with other lay women and men who want to consider embracing the Dominican Spirituality (see article on right), please contact Carol Mayes, o.p. at 713-440-3718 or at cmayes@domhou.org .   The gathering begins with dinner so your reservations are important.  Please consider this invitation and call Carol Mayes,o.p. if you have any questions.

Our Dominican Family team will help to guide and direct reflection of this spirituality.

Legend has it that St. Dominic planted an orange tree
in Rome, much like the ones planted on the grounds
of the Dominican Sisters of Houston.

Dominican Spirituality

In many ways, our times are similar to the period when St. Dominic founded the Dominican Order, 800 years ago.  Dominic saw the need for a new, almost revolutionary, form of life.

Dominican spirituality continues to enrich the lives of thousands of men and women today through embracing the hope and joy in God's creation and the Gospel message.  This spirituality is rooted in the Dominican tradition of seeking the Truth; preaching the Word of God by word and in actions; and promoting the dignity of all persons.

A Member of the Family...

The Dominican Family is made up of vowed religious and laity who make a commitment to live life through a Dominican spirit, trying to live intentionally as Dominicans.  Preaching the "Good News" through one's work, art and life is the essence of the Dominican Family.

The first step in becoming part of the Dominican Family is to learn more through an informational meeting sharing the excitement and enrichment of the Dominican Family.  Call or email now to see how you can get involved.  Contact information is located at right.
