Friends and family gathered on August 17, 2010, to celebrate Mary Ann Araiza’s service to the Dominican Sisters of Houston. Mary Ann is retiring after serving as administrative assistant for almost 25 years for six different prioresses. The celebration began with Mass, followed by a luncheon at the Villa. All the sisters are very grateful for Mary Ann’s excellent work over the years and for her wonderful and loving spirit. 30 girls from 5th through 8th grade enjoyed a week of summer camp at Circle Lake Retreat Center in Pinehurst, Texas. This is the eighth year that the Dominican Sisters of Houston have sponsored summer camp. To visit the photo gallery and view pictures of the activities click here!

Sister Mary Francis Heins is a BOI (born on the Island) on November 12, 1927, to George Heins and Rosella Eckenfels Heins. She had one brother, George "Pickles" Heins. She attended school at Sacred Heart and graduated as Valedictorian from Dominican High School in 1946.

| got 62 miles in that day, and was within 8 miles of Schlitterbahn when the ride was stopped because of lightning. |

On the days of executions, Dominican sisters host a prayer vigil in the Villa chapel at 4:45 p.m. We pray for the victims of violent crimes, their families the men and women sentenced to die for these crimes, their families, and those men and women who participate in executions. |

Dr. Greer Gordon, Head of Evangelization for the Diocese of Baton Rouge, spoke at the Dominican Center for Spirituality in Houston on January 8-9, 2010. The event was a huge success. Friday began with an inspiring talk followed by a reception. Saturday was a full day and the evaluations recorded it as excellent. There will soon be pictures on the website of this event.
